Activities Within Preventive Conservation Scope
A comprehensive list of preventive conservation activities you can manage with Muselera:
Condition Assessment and Documentation
Comprehensive condition assessments are performed and recorded in Muselera for each object. Through visual inspection, physical testing, and non-destructive examination methods (X-ray, infrared imaging), the object's condition is determined in detail. Color changes, cracks, missing parts, and structural problems are documented with photographs.
Environmental Control and Microclimate Management
Temperature (15-22°C), humidity (40-50%), and light levels are regularly monitored and recorded. UV radiation measurements are taken, and air quality is controlled. Ideal environmental conditions are defined for each object type, and deviations are automatically detected. Showcase microclimate values are tracked separately.
Pest and Vermin Management
A proactive protection program is implemented against insects, rodents, and other pests. Regular inspections are conducted, pest traps are checked, and results are recorded. Work follows Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles. Fumigation programs are planned and tracked when necessary.
Professional Cleaning and Dust Control
Standard procedures are applied for regular cleaning of objects. Methodical cleaning is performed using soft brushes, microfiber cloths, and specialized cleaning solutions. Materials, methods, and duration used for each cleaning are recorded. Dust accumulation is minimized with HEPA-filtered vacuums and controlled air flow systems.
Stabilization and Consolidation Treatments
Stabilization treatments for fragile or delicate objects are planned and implemented. The structural integrity of objects is preserved using adhesives, resins, and reinforcing materials. Materials, concentrations, and application techniques used for each treatment are thoroughly documented.
Storage Conditions and Packaging
Storage conditions of objects in storage are regularly inspected. Acid-free boxes, specialized foams, and protective materials are used. Storage organization, access ease, and security standards are continuously reviewed. Each object's storage location and packaging details are recorded in the system.
Transport and Handling Protocols
Special procedures are defined for safe transportation of objects. Transport equipment, packaging materials, and route planning are detailed. Pre-transport condition checks are conducted and documented with photographs.
Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Plans
Emergency response plans are created for fire, flood, earthquakes, and other disasters. Priority object evacuation plans are developed, drills are conducted, and results are evaluated. Emergency equipment maintenance and readiness status are tracked.
